Retirement - Day 1

Well, here it is...the first day of retirement and I've decided it's good to start such a monumental undertaking with a list of five objectives:

1)  Commit to a project
2)  Learn something new every day
3)  Travel
4)  Travel
5)  Travel

Okay, so that's really only three objectives, but I don't think one should learn to slow down by overburdening oneself right away.   I thought I could address my first objective by starting this blog.  I'm hoping that I can commit to 3 entries/week to start.  Learning something new every day...well that's pretty straight forward.  And travel...well, I'm in the throws of planning our "once in a lifetime" retirement holiday which will take place in September.   It's a 28 day cruise which circumnavigates Australia.  I'll be celebrating my 50th birthday while on board, so this is a double celebration.  So far we've got the cruise itself booked but not the airfare.  For those of you that know me well, that means there will be hours of research done to track down the BEST deal possible on the airfare as well as all other aspects of the trip.  I'll keep you posted as to the progress I make on this, and hopefully, many other trips to come.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY:  A few years ago a friend told me that you could ascertain the "stage" of your life by the number of keys on your key ring.  Today I learned that this is true.  Yesterday I had close to a dozen keys on my ring, many of which had to be returned when I left work.  Today I got up to go for a nice long walk and had all of 4 keys on my ring.  Well, 3 actually...you can't really count that obscure little key that I have no idea what it goes to, but I have a very vague recollection of a small red padlock with a red stripe around it.  What house/locker/utility box it was associated to has long been forgotten.  Do I keep it on the ring to make me feel more "involved", or do I remove it and leave only three keys - house, car and mailbox.   That just may be a decision for tomorrow...
