I'm sitting on the back deck, trying to stay well out of harm's way while the packers do their magic and turn a house full of our possessions into a pile of boxes. They are making great progress, and while they're at it, I'm doing some trip planning (my favourite past time). Our Australia trip is almost looked after, what with only 1 night accommodation left to book...and for that I'm going to wait until the very last minute. After all, there are many Aussies on this cruise we are going on, and no doubt we will meet SOMEONE on the cruise that has a good tip on a cheap room...as in where to find one, or how to book one. Now I'm focusing on some excursions and tours for port days. And as is my way when I book a trip, I can't just book it and leave it....I have to check back, ad nauseum, to make sure a) the price hasn't dropped, or in this case b) a better cabin hasn't come available. Well, sure enough....there was a better cabin available today on the Princess website....so....I got hold of my travel agent (yes, I used one for this trip and didn't rely on my own booking abilities....and glad I did, cause she saved me $400/person over what I could have gotten on my own) and she worked her magic (seems to be alot of magic going on today....movers....travel agents....) and got our cabin changed. Some of my research indicated that there is less movement when you are midship or aft (that's the back end for you landlubbers!). We had an okay cabin, but it was very forward (you guessed it....that's the front end!!). And I'd also read that besides motion, the closer to the front you are the more likelihood of wind inhibiting your balcony usage...and god knows we paid enough for the damn balcony....I don't want to be unable to use it because of wind!! So now I'm a happy camper....literally, cause I have no house to live in... and I have an excellent cabin which is the aft side of midship on the port side (that's important because we are traveling counter clockwise around the country and port side allows us to see the sights of Australia vs an endless view of water, water, and more water) ....all's right in my small little world....today....
WHAT I LEARNED TODAY: The way to a good doctor....is through their receptionist. I got the phone number of a new clinic in Saint John as I'm on the hunt for a doctor (female) when I get moved. I put the call in this morning and had to do some very serious "up-sucking" to sell myself. Okay, okay, so I didn't get in right away, so my sales pitch wasn't that great...but I'm ever so confident that I will get a call...all because ...and I'm quoting the woman who I spoke with this morning..."in all seriousness, the way to get in is to be nice to the receptionist"...so, of course, my reply was "Do you prefer flowers...or candy?"...
