Kier and I spent the last three days doing something we thought we'd never do....screw...in public... Okay, okay get your minds out of the gutter!!! We screwed the flooring down in the new house. It meant for alot of crawling around on hands and knees, but we saved ourselves several hours of labour charges.
In my free time, when I'm not busy "gopher-ing" for the builders, I've booked a couple of excursions for our Australia trip. I got our Elephant Safari booked for Bali (the absolute top of my list of things I wanted to do on this cruise - and yes, Denise, I will send you a photo). The second "must see" is the Valley of the Giants near Denmark, Australia where you do a "tree top walk". That has been arranged through someone in our "roll call". We're not planning on being "excursion fanatics" like some others in our on-line group who have something planned for every port. Aside from the atrocious cost of these excursions, we like to have some time to explore on our own time/terms...so we've decided to keep our excursions down to 3 or 4. We figure that's reasonable on a 28 day cruise with 13 ports of call. I've got leads on the last 2 I'm going to book, but haven't finalized them as yet.
WHAT I LEARNED TODAY: I actually learned on Saturday when Kier and I bought new appliances at Sears that he is waaaayyy more lucky than I am. We waited for the "scratch and save" event as the salesman said we would be able to get a bit more off the prices. Unlike the scratch cards of years ago, you no longer scratch a percentage off big ticket items, but simply $20, $40, $80, or if you're really lucky, $100. Well, on Saturday when we presented ourselves at Sears, and finalized the 6 appliances we were buying, we proceeded to EACH scratch 6 cards, and the 6 best of the 12 would be applied to the price of our purchases. (pretty good deal extended to us by our salesman!!) Well, I proceeded to scratch $20, $20, $20, $20, and then wow...$40....before my last $20. I was certainly not going to put Sears out of business with my savings! Kier, however, had a bit more luck....he started with $20...but then went up to $40, followed by a $100 and then an $80 and finished off with 2 more $20's. All in all, we saved an extra $300 off our appliances, allowing us to be within $200 of our budget! Needless to say, after that display, Kier will be doing ALL the lottery ticket purchases from here on in!!
